Antonio José Gómez Díaz (Murcia, September 17, 1976). He has a degree in Physical Education from the University of León (1999). Between 2003 and 2005, he completed the High Performance Master in Team Sports, organized by Mastercede and the FC Barcelona Foundation. In 2014, he presented his doctoral thesis “Conditional assessment based on physical resistance tests, periodization of training and competition performance in European professional football”, obtaining the qualification of Outstanding Cum Laude and the Extraordinary Doctorate Award 2014. In the year 2018, he completed the Master in High Performance in Sports Cyclics, in the University of Murcia.
He began his professional career at Liverpool FC as a physical trainer in the reserves team, becoming champion of the Premier League Reserves in 2008. After two seasons at the entity, he would head to Sunderland AFC, where he stayed for one season. In July 2009, a new spell in England began, this time at Ipswich Town FC. His journey through British lands ended in June 2011, when he returned to his homeland to work as a physical trainer at FC Cartagena.
A season later, he was recruited by FC Barcelona, joining the FC Barcelona B team in July 2012. It was during this time, when the Blaugrana reserve team achieved the best classifications in its history, in the second category of Spanish football. This job served him to promote to the first team in July 2016, where he remained for more than 4 seasons. In these years, the team won two League titles, two SM El Rey Cups and 2 Spanish Super Cups.
In February 2021, he begins to work with the coach Paulo Sousa, beginning a new adventure in Poland, as a physical trainer for the national team, playing in the Euro2020 (played in 2021). After a year, they left for the American continent, and he began to work as a physical trainer for CR Flamengo, playing in national tournaments and the Copa Libertadores. In January 2023, he signed as a physical trainer for the Spain National Youth Teams, expanding his international experience representing his country.
